Off Base by Annabeth Albert

When your'e a Navy Seal trying to fly under the radar and hide your sexuality, the last thing you need is to be hit on by a very out and proud gay man.

Zack was already being blackmailed by one of his colleagues so when he decides to move off base for a bit of privacy, he never expects to find himself with a roomate.

Pike is flirty, he sees something he wants and he goes for it.

Living with Zack seems like the perfect opportunity to play with the man, what he didn't count on was developing feelings.

Hiding a relationship isn't something Pike is happy about but if it gets him some time with his man he would put up with it, that is until Zack is injured on duty and no one tells him.

The realisation that the argument they had might have been their last words and the fact that if he had died, he might never have known is just too much.

This is a beautifully written, sad story of what it's like when you have to hide who you love. The feeling of not being able to look after someone because it's not always what others want to accept must be so hard and the author draws you in to their world and lets you share their pain.

5 out of 5 stars.
